  • Merino wool blend. 59% Merino carries the warmth, the moisture management and the odor resistance; the nylon and elastane carry the durability and the shape. Full blend: 59% Merino wool, 39% recycled nylon, 2% elastane.

  • Indestructawool™ durability. Extra yarn is knit into the high-impact wear zones — heel, toe and the shin where a boot buckle sits — so the sock wears out where it is thickest rather than where it is thinnest.
  • 4 Degree™ Elite Fit System. Two elastics pull the sock in at the arch and the ankle, and mesh zones sit where the foot vents. It is what stops a sock creeping down inside a boot and blistering you.

Over-the-calf height finishes above the boot cuff, so no sock edge is trapped between a hard shell and the shin.

Touring and long days out

Merino manages moisture on the way up and keeps insulating on the way down, and the cushioning absorbs the miles.

Winter boots and cold days

Over-the-calf Merino works just as well inside a winter boot as a ski boot, and it goes several days between washes.

How do I pick a sock size?

Smartwool sock sizes run off shoe size, not foot length in inches. The Smartwool sock chart on this page maps each size to US, Euro and UK shoe sizes. This style is offered in M, L, XL.

What does full cushion mean?

Smartwool's own definition for this style: “Medium thickness with full sock cushioning.” Full cushioning on the shin, calf and foot — the padding a snowboard boot's softer shell still needs over a long day.

Can I wear these more than once between washes?

Yes — that is one of the practical reasons to ski in wool. Merino resists odor build-up, so a pair aired out overnight is fine for a second and often a third day. Wash them when they are actually dirty.

Will they shrink?

Not if you follow the label. Machine wash on a gentle cycle in warm or cool water and tumble dry low. High heat is what shrinks and felts a wool sock — a hot dryer will do more damage than a season of skiing.
