Are they actually waterproof?

Yes - the upper is nubuck leather over a KEEN.DRY waterproof membrane, so rain, puddles and wet grass are no problem. It is a boot, not a wellington: water deeper than the cuff will come in over the top.

Are they good for wide feet?

This is KEEN's Original Fit, which gives generous room across the forefoot for the toes to splay. It is one of the roomier hiking boots on the wall before you even consider the wide fitting, which we also stock.

Do I need to break them in?

Less than most leather boots, because the Luftcell midsole is cushioned from the first wear. Still give them a couple of long walks before a big day out - nubuck needs a little time to take the shape of your foot.

Will the sole come away from the upper?

That is exactly what KEEN.FUSION is designed to prevent. There is no glue in the bond - the upper is fused to the sole - and KEEN guarantee it against delamination.

Can I carry a pack in them?

Yes. KEEN list the Targhee IV for backpacking as well as day hiking. The stability shank and heel-capture system are there to keep the boot under you when there is weight on your back.
