When would I wear a vest instead of a jacket?

When you want torso warmth but need free arm movement — climbing, hiking, hauling firewood, working around camp. Also great when temps are mild but a breeze chills your core, or as a layer under a hardshell when full insulation is too much.

Will it work as a midlayer under a jacket?

Yes — most vests are cut trim enough to layer cleanly under a shell or jacket. Check the chest measurement; if you're between sizes, the smaller usually layers better.

Does it have hand pockets?

Most do. Spec sheet confirms — typical configuration is two zippered hand pockets and an internal chest pocket. Hand pockets are usually fleece-lined for warmth.

Is the back longer than the front?

Most performance vests have a slightly dropped hem at the back to prevent gaps when you bend forward. Spec sheet has the back length if it's a critical fit detail.

Can I wash it like a jacket?

Same care as the equivalent insulated jacket — gentle wash, mild detergent, tumble dry low. Synthetic insulation is forgiving. Down requires a down-specific approach.
