Description

If your kids hate to overheat while playing in colder weather, dress them in our Kids' Merino Glove. These gloves help keep the chill away, but, with a Merino blend, they're plenty breathable. These gloves are touchscreen-compatible, so they have no excuse but to text you back when they're out and about.

Features
  • Merino next to skin. The jersey fabric keeps 100% Merino wool against the hand, so the fiber doing the temperature regulating is the one you can feel.
  • Recycled nylon core. A recycled nylon core carries the abrasion so the wool does not have to — the reason a thin Merino glove survives a season.
  • Lightweight jersey knit. Thin enough to keep your child's hands usable — closing a buckle, holding a pole, picking up a glove they dropped.
  • Layers under a mitt. Slim enough to wear inside a ski mitt on a genuinely cold day, and warm enough on its own when it is not.
  • Odor resistance. Merino resists odor build-up, which matters on a glove that lives balled up in a coat pocket.
Size & Fit

Sized S to L on hand circumference rather than age — measure around the widest part of the palm and check the Smartwool glove chart on this page. The jersey knit stretches, so a glove that measures close will fit; one sized up loses dexterity and traps less warmth.

Smartwool Size Chart - Gloves

Smartwool Sizing Chart

Measurements are in inches, unless otherwise noted.

Gloves:

Size Hand Size
XS 6 - 6.5
S 7 - 7.5
M 8 - 8.5
L 9 - 9.5
XL 10 - 10.5

Kids' Gloves:

Size Hand Width Hand Length
S 5 - 5.5 5.5
M 5.5 - 6 6
L 6 - 6.5 6

Hand size is measured around the widest part of the hand at the knuckles, not including the thumb. Hand length is measured from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger.

Smartwool gloves run true to size. Apply your hand measurement to the chart above to choose the best size. Smartwool products are designed to retain their fit and shape; following the care instructions on the label will help avoid shrinking or stretching.

A single-layer Merino jersey. Warm for its thickness, but this is a shoulder-season and layering glove, not a deep-winter ski glove.

Thin enough to do up a zip or a buckle without taking them off — the trade-off you make for the lower warmth rating.

An unlined knit glove. It is not windproof and it is not waterproof; wet snow will come through.

Merino resists odor naturally, so a glove worn all week does not need washing all week.

Best for

Is this right for you?

Cold-weather everyday

The glove that lives in a coat pocket all winter and handles the walk to school, the bus stop and the playground.

Not for: Not enough on its own once it is genuinely below freezing and windy. Add the Kids' Thermal Merino Neck Gaiter

Liner under a ski mitt

Thin enough to fit inside a waterproof mitt, and warm enough to keep hands working during the ten seconds the mitt is off.

Not for: It is not a ski glove. There is no waterproof shell and no insulation — it goes under one, not instead of one. Pair it with the Classic Thermal Crew

Shoulder-season hikes

Light enough to carry without thinking about it, for the cold hour at the start and end of an autumn walk.

Not for: Wet weather is its weak point — an unlined wool knit soaks and stays damp. Add the Kids' Reversible Art Beanie

Questions, answered

Before you buy.

Pulled from chats, emails and store visits. The things people actually ask us before they buy. Don't see yours?

Ask a question
How do I pick a size?

Measure around the widest part of your child's palm and check the Smartwool glove chart on this page. The sizes are S, M and L, and they map to hand circumference rather than age.

Are these warm enough for skiing?

On their own, no. This is a thin single-layer Merino jersey glove — it works as a liner inside a ski mitt or glove, and on its own for everyday cold rather than a full day on the hill.

Are they waterproof?

No. It is an unlined knit glove, so wet snow will come through and the wool will hold water. Merino still insulates when damp, which is the reason to choose wool over synthetic here, but it is not a wet-weather glove.

Will they shrink in the wash?

Not if you follow the label — machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and dry flat. A hot dryer will felt and shrink a thin Merino glove faster than any other garment in the drawer.

What is the recycled nylon for?

Abrasion. Wool alone would wear through at the fingertips quickly, so the yarn is spun with a nylon core carrying the wear while 100% Merino stays on the surface next to the skin. 12% of the fabric is recycled nylon.
