Description
The lightest daily trainer On make, and the one built around CloudTec Phase - a pod geometry computer-optimised to collapse in sequence from heel to toe rather than all at once. The result is a roll rather than a landing.
Helion foam tuned for softness sits under it, and the mesh upper is kept deliberately plain: embroidered eyelets, a reworked tongue, nothing that adds weight. At 225 g it is the shoe you stop noticing.
Perfect for
Features
- CloudTec Phase. A newer pod geometry, computer-optimised so the pods collapse in sequence from heel to toe instead of together. You feel it as a continuous roll through the footstrike rather than a distinct landing and push-off.
- Helion foam tuned for softness. The same Helion foam On use across the range, tuned here toward softness rather than support or return. It is what keeps a light shoe from feeling thin.
- Breathable mesh upper. Engineered to optimise breathability, with embroidered eyelets and overlays instead of stitched-on ones - lighter, and one less thing to rub.
- Updated tongue construction. Reworked on this version for a more comfortable fit. A small change, but the tongue is where a light upper usually starts to annoy you.
- Durable outsole and updated tread. More rubber and a reworked tread pattern. The obvious weak point of a 225 g shoe is that it wears out, and this is where On addressed it.

About the brand
On was born in the Swiss Alps with one mission: revolutionize the running sensation. Their CloudTec® cushioning gives every stride a soft landing and powerful takeoff. At Mountain Sports, we love On because it blends sleek design with performance innovation — gear that makes every run feel lighter.

Is this right for you?
Everyday training runs
The default daily trainer if you want to feel light. Enough cushioning for the miles, a rolling geometry that makes the pace feel easier, and little enough weight that you forget it is there.
Not for: Not a max-cushion shoe. If you want deep protection for long or slow runs, the Cloudsurfer Max or the Cloudstratus 3 are the same idea with far more foam. Shop road running shoes
Runners who dislike heavy shoes
If cushioned trainers usually feel like too much shoe, this is the one that does not. At 225 g with a 9 mm drop it sits closer to a traditional trainer than most of the current cushioned crop.
Not for: The 9 mm drop is the highest in this group - if you prefer a low drop, look at the Cloudsurfer Max at 6 mm. Shop women's shoes
Walking and treadmill
On list both alongside road running. The rolling geometry suits walking pace and there is enough rubber for a belt.
Not for: Not for trails - a road outsole with no lugs. Shop all footwear
