About the brand

ASICS has been building running shoes in Japan since 1949, founded on the idea captured in its name — Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, a sound mind in a sound body. Decades of gait research and signature cushioning, from GEL technology to FF BLAST foam, have made lines like the GEL-Nimbus and GEL-Kayano trusted companions for everyday joggers and marathoners alike. At Mountain Sports, we love ASICS because their shoes pair real running science with a smooth, supportive ride that keeps you coming back mile after mile.

Questions, answered

Before you buy.

Pulled from chats, emails and store visits. The things people actually ask us before they buy. Don't see yours?

Ask a question
Is the Novablast 6 a stability shoe?

No — ASICS rates it Neutral. There is no medial post and no guidance system; the stability you feel comes from the wider rearfoot base giving a more planted landing, not from any corrective structure. If you have been told you overpronate, look at the GEL-Kayano instead.

What makes the Novablast bouncy?

A geometric high-stack midsole of FF BLAST MAX foam, plus a FF TURBO SQUARED trampoline pod under the forefoot that springs back at toe-off. It is the most energetic ride in the Novablast line and the reason people describe the shoe as fun rather than merely comfortable.

How cushioned is it compared with the Nimbus?

ASICS rates the Novablast 6 High and the GEL-Nimbus 28 Maximum, so the Nimbus is the softer, more protective shoe. The Novablast is about a full ounce lighter and returns more energy. Pick the Nimbus for easy miles and recovery, the Novablast when you want the shoe to push back.

What is it best for?

ASICS tags it Further. At 8.9 oz with a high stack and an 8 mm drop it handles daily training, tempo work and long runs equally well, which is unusual — most shoes are good at two of those three.

How does it fit?

True to size for most runners. The engineered woven upper is adaptive and breathes well, so it gives a little across the forefoot without feeling loose. ASICS also produces this model in a 2E wide.
