The kids' Rebel — New Balance's springy FuelCell foam in a light lace-up that handles sports day, the playground and the walk home.

Features
  • Propulsive FuelCell foam — the same midsole family as New Balance's adult Rebel
  • Light synthetic and mesh upper at 201 g
  • Full rubber outsole for grip and for surviving a term of tarmac
  • Lace closure, so the fit can be adjusted as the foot grows
  • Neutral support — no stability structure
  • Big kids US 3.5–7, roughly ages 6–12
Materials & Care
  • Upper material: Synthetic with mesh panels — light and breathable, and quick to dry after a wet playground.
  • Midsole: FuelCell foam, tuned to spring back rather than compress soft.
  • Outsole: Full rubber, which is what makes a kids' shoe last a school year.
  • Care: Let mud dry and brush it off before adding water, then hand wash with mild soap and cool water and air dry at room temperature. Never the radiator and never the tumble dryer — heat warps the midsole and unsticks the sole.
Size & Fit
  • Big kids US 3.5–7 in half sizes, standard (M) width.
  • Big kids' sizes sit just below adult sizing — a big kids' 7 is around a women's 8.5 or a men's 7. They are not the same as a little kids' 7, which is much smaller.
  • Measure rather than guess: stand your child on paper against a wall, mark the longest toe, and check the measurement against the size guide.
  • Leave about a thumb's width of growing room at the end, and always fit the larger foot — almost nobody has two the same.
  • Needs a smaller size than 3.5? New Balance builds the same shoe in a little kids' run (US 10.5–3) as a separate style — ask us.

About The Brand

New Balance has been making shoes in New England since 1906, and still runs its own factories in the United States — a rare thing in modern footwear. The range stretches from the 574 to carbon-plated racers and track spikes, but the constant is fit: multiple widths, a size run that goes where other brands stop, and shoes built to be run in rather than looked at. At Mountain Sports, we carry New Balance because it takes fit seriously — and because a shoe that actually fits is the one you will keep reaching for.
