New Balance's everyday workhorse, now in its fifteenth version. Soft Fresh Foam X underfoot, a breathable engineered mesh upper, a conventional 6 mm drop, and — unusually at this price — four widths from narrow to x-wide.

The 880 is not trying to be exciting. It is the shoe you buy when you want one pair to cover every run you actually do, and it carries the American Podiatric Medical Association's Seal of Acceptance, which few running shoes bother to get. New Balance build it for all-day wearability as much as for running, which is why plenty of these are bought by people who spend the day on their feet rather than racing.

Features
  • Fresh Foam X midsole, New Balance's most cushioned Fresh Foam, tuned soft
  • Breathable, structured engineered mesh upper built for all-day wearability
  • Carries the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance
  • Four widths - B narrow, D standard, 2E wide and 4E x-wide
  • Conventional 6 mm drop that asks nothing of your stride
  • Neutral support, soft cushioning, 299 g
  • Men's US 7 to 16, one of the broadest size runs we stock
Materials & Care
  • Upper: breathable, structured engineered mesh
  • Midsole: Fresh Foam X
  • Care: brush off dry dirt, hand wash the mesh with mild soap and cool water, then air dry at room temperature away from direct heat. No washing machine and no tumble dryer - heat is what kills midsole foam.
Size & Fit
  • Men's US 7 to 13 in half sizes, plus 14, 15 and 16, in four widths.
  • Take your usual running-shoe size. New Balance's own fit data across 400-plus reviews says it fits as expected for most people.
  • Width matters more than length on this shoe. If your usual trainer feels tight across the ball of the foot, go up a width rather than up a size.
  • B is narrow, D standard, 2E wide and 4E x-wide. Very little else at this price is built beyond wide.
  • Not every colourway is stocked in every width - check the width selector on the colour you want, or ask us.
  • Neutral only. If you need stability, the Fresh Foam X 860 is the equivalent with guidance built in.
Specs
  • Weight 299 g / 10.5 oz in a men's sample size
  • Heel-to-toe drop of 6 mm
  • Cushioning rated Soft by New Balance
  • Neutral support
  • APMA Seal of Acceptance
  • Road and pavement
  • US 7 to 16 in B, D, 2E and 4E widths
  • Style M880V15

About The Brand

New Balance has been making shoes in New England since 1906, and still runs its own factories in the United States — a rare thing in modern footwear. The range stretches from the 574 to carbon-plated racers and track spikes, but the constant is fit: multiple widths, a size run that goes where other brands stop, and shoes built to be run in rather than looked at. At Mountain Sports, we carry New Balance because it takes fit seriously — and because a shoe that actually fits is the one you will keep reaching for.
