Hylo's own summary of the Axis is naturally stable, and that word order matters - this is a shoe that guides rather than corrects. There is no medial post and no hard plastic. Instead a broader platform, a sculpted midsole geometry Hylo call PureGlide SP, and a slightly denser foam do the work between them, so the ride feels supportive without ever telling your foot where to go. Underneath it is a deep bed of HyperBolt+, their nitrogen-injected foam, which is what makes a stability shoe this soft.

The other half of the story is what it is made of. Hylo build the Axis from bio-based and recycled inputs throughout - the upper knit comes from castor-bean yarn, the lining from corn, the outsole is mostly natural rubber, and there is even seaweed in the mix. Their framing is higher energy return with a lighter footprint, and the useful part is that none of it reads as a compromise: the upper is a structured warp knit with zoned breathability and a reinforced heel counter, which is exactly what you want holding your foot over a long run.

Features
  • HyperBolt+ nitrogen-injected midsole foam, 50% bio-based
  • 38 mm stack with an 8 mm heel-to-toe drop
  • PureGlide SP sculpted geometry for structural stability without added weight
  • Broader platform and a slightly denser foam for a supportive, guided ride
  • Single-piece Jacquard warp-knit upper from castor-bean-derived yarn
  • Zoned knitting places softness and breathability where the foot needs each
  • Corn-derived lining, collar and tongue
  • Reinforced heel counter and engineered overlays for lockdown
  • TreadLight outsole, 60% natural rubber, designed to displace water
  • Supercritical nitrogen-injected insole with a recycled top cloth
Materials & Care
  • Upper: single-piece Jacquard warp knit in monofilament and multifilament 60% bio-based castor-bean-derived yarn
  • Lining, collar and tongue: corn-derived
  • Midsole: 50% bio-based HyperBolt+ supercritical nitrogen-injected foam with added bio-EVA, in PureGlide SP geometry
  • Insole: supercritical nitrogen-injected with a recycled top cloth
  • Outsole: TreadLight, 60% natural rubber
  • Laces: 6 mm recycled wooly nylon
  • Material breakdown: biobased EVA 26.24%, recycled polyester 9.75%, natural rubber 5.78%, biobased nylon 3.68%, recycled CDP 1.89%, recycled nylon 1.67%, recycled TPU 0.88%, seaweed 0.6%, biobased polyurethane 0.19%, recycled EVA 0.16%, recycled PE 0.03%
  • Care: knock off loose dirt after each run, then spot clean the knit with a soft brush, mild soap and cool water. Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat. No washing machine and no tumble dryer - heat breaks down the cushioning and the adhesives.
Size & Fit
  • True to size, per Hylo's own fit guidance.
  • Sizes are listed as a US men's / US women's / EU triple - read across to your own scale.
  • A regular fit. The upper is anatomically shaped rather than narrow or wide.
  • Start with your usual running-shoe size. Leave about a thumb's width ahead of the longest toe.
  • The reinforced heel counter and engineered overlays hold the midfoot, so you should not need to over-tighten the laces.
  • If you are between sizes or run in thicker socks, the half size up is the safer pick.
Specs
  • Weight 10.4 oz / 295 g
  • Stack height 38 mm
  • Heel-to-toe drop of 8 mm
  • Cushion rated High by Hylo

  • Road
  • Unisex sizing, listed as US men's / US women's / EU
  • Style SS26UASTN (Stone)
About The Brand

Hylo Athletics was founded on a straightforward frustration: running shoes are made almost entirely from plastic, and almost none of them get recycled. Hylo builds performance shoes from bio-based and recycled materials instead — supercritical foams grown from plants, natural rubber outsoles, uppers engineered to hit 50% bio-based and recycled content — and refuses to trade away weight or energy return to do it. At Mountain Sports, we love Hylo because it proves the trade-off was never real: a genuinely light, genuinely bouncy daily trainer that happens to ask a lot less of the planet.
