About Mountain Sports

"Providing great gear and expert knowledge
for your outdoor adventures."

Come See Us

For 40 years, Mountain Sports has been providing its customers with the quality gear and knowledge theyíve come to expect. Our business has come a long way since its conception in 1972 as Southwest Canoe and Kayak. From a modest-sized metal building of 500 sq. ft., we rented and sold canoes, kayaks and camping gear. As the years passed and business grew, we expanded to meet the needs of our growing customer base.

Our second location received a new name, Southwest Canoe and Trail, to reflect our growing selection of a variety of outdoor products. In the late Ď70s, we broadened our selection to include ski equipment, clothing and accessories. By 1984, we had become Mountain Sports, and the name stuck with us through a major expansion and a move to our current location in 1987. In 1996, we launched mountainsports.com, which has allowed us to reach customers all over the country with all our full inventory of products and continues to grow as a major part of our business.

Though the business has changed a lot over the last 38 years, our dedication to offering the best gear and clothing at the best prices has never wavered. Our staff is superb, always offering expert advice and working closely with you to make sure you find exactly what you need. Our competitors have come and gone, but our commitment to our customers is what has enabled us to keep offering the best service around.

Meet The Saff

George H.-1984 Shipping Manager

I started with Mountain Sports way back when it was still Southwest Canoe & Trail! I enjoy camping, hiking, kayaking, and bicycling, and have enjoyed many adventures with friends that I've met through work. I'm now helping the 3rd generation of families that have been loyal customers through the years. Quality equipment from Mountain Sports has accompanied me on trips from border to border, and coast to coast, and internationally, too. My current favorite piece of gear? That would be my Tilley hat. Stylish, functional and durable, if I'm out in the sun I try to have it on.
Currently at Mountain Sports I handle the Internet sales & shipping, and anything else that needs doing. Still a fun job 31 years into it! #GeorgeFromMountainSports

Josh W.- 2007 General Manager

Josh here, Joshua Walker. Some call me Walker Texas Angler. When I'm not working at Mountain Sports I am busy being a husband and father. Fishing has been my lifelong passion and I feel most at home on rivers. My Jackson Kayak Coosa HD delivers the goods on every trip. Other activities I love are: mountain biking, backpacking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and cooking.

Josh D. - 2010 Assistant Manager

My name is Josh Davis, I began working at Mountain Sports in 2010 shortly after moving here from Paso Robles on the Central Coast of California. There, I grew up snowboarding (began in 1993) and have been in love with it ever since. However there are not any chair lifts in Texas so, rock climbing, kayaking, and disc golf are my newer vices. If I can incorporate camping into any of these sports thatís a huge plus as well! I would have to say some of my favorite outdoor trips I have done (other than a few secret spots that Iím forbidden to share online) would have to be hiking Half Dome in Yosemite, and touring Arizona to such spots as the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff and many nameless sights in between.

Annalise J. - 2010 Marketing Manager

The name is Annalise and the website is my game. I love all things technology and adding that to my love of camping, fishing, and hiking makes this the perfect job for me. For as long as I can remember I've been planning trips, doing day hikes, or finding new spots to relax in-tucked away from the publics eye. If it was outdoors I wanted to be there. My all-time favorite spot is Glacier National Park in Montana. I'd make every trip back to finish exploring the park if I could.

Tanner P. - 2014 Sales Assosciate

I have worked at Mountain Sports since Fall 2014. When I'm not at the shop, I'm either in class at Dallas Baptist University or leading Wyldlife at a local middle school. I am an avid disc golf player and hammocker. My favorite discs are the Discraft "Nuke SS", the Lat 64 "Mace", and the Dynamic Discs "Warden." My favorite hammock is my ENO DoubleNest.

John T. - 2015 Sales Assosciate

With a family such as mine my childhood consisted of outdoor trips on a regular basis. My dad worked at Mountain Sports for 10 years when he was my age, which played into my excitement when I was given the job. I am a soccer player at Trinity High School and I also love canoeing and camping with my friends. A 65 liter Kelty Catalyst backpack and a North Face Kings Canyon 3 are my go to equipment for a camping trip with my friends. My favorite place to go hiking around this area is River Legacy Park. Mountain Sports was one of my favorite stores growing up and I am privileged to be working here.
